Message from the University President

Momoyama Gakuin University, which traces its roots to the Church of England, was founded in 1959. Our main campus is located in
Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture, whilst our Osaka-Abeno Campus is situated in Showa-cho, Abeno Ward, Osaka City. Together, these two campuses form a comprehensive university with a total of eight faculties—spanning the humanities and sciences—and nine
departments, boasting a student body of approximately 8,000.
Since its foundation, the university has upheld the founding principle of ‘nurturing global citizens’ based on the Christian spirit. This
means fostering individuals who can understand perspectives and ways of thinking different from their own, and who are capable of
collaborating with anyone, anywhere in the world. We refer to such individuals as ‘global citizens’. To this end, a compulsory course
entitled ‘Global Citizens’ has been established for all undergraduate students at the university.

When we consider the challenges facing the world—not only recent tragedies such as the Russia–Ukraine crisis, the Gaza conflict
and the attacks on Iran, but also long-standing issues such as climate change, hunger and malnutrition—it is clear that now, more than ever, people must help and support one another. The era in which narrow self-interest suffices has drawn to a close. It is precisely in
this day and age that our vision of ‘supporting people globally and locally’, based on the founding spirit of our university, is most
urgently required.

Under this vision, our university places great importance on international exchange and has established partnerships with 67
universities across 26 countries and regions worldwide (as of January 2026). In this environment, our university has successfully
overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to thrive as an institution that nurtures ‘global citizens’.

At the same time, Momoyama Gakuin University values a relationship of mutual dependence, in which ‘we support the local
community whilst being supported by it in return’, and actively contributes to the revitalisation and regeneration of the region. Based
on the ‘Four Promises’ agreed in 2019 with the cities of Izumi, Izumiotsu, Kawachinagano and Kishiwada, students, faculty, and staff
are working in unison to tackle various local issues. Furthermore, centred on the Abeno Campus in Osaka—home to the Faculty of
Business Design—we collaborate with over 140 companies, government bodies and organisations to learn together and address modern challenges.
In this way, our university places great emphasis on practical learning to realise our mission of ‘supporting people globally and locally’. We sincerely hope that, through your time at our university, you will discover your true passions and pursue them to the fullest extent
possible. All our faculty and staff remain deeply committed to supporting you on this path.
Let us stride forward together.
